About Guardians of the Forest
Arts etc is an Arts Partnership working with all sectors of the community in Wyre Forest District.
Our aim is to offer creative opportunities to everyone especially those who for a variety of reasons find it difficult to access mainstream arts activities.
We work with partner organisations including local Arts companies and Theatres. This year we have been delighted to work in partnership with The Fetch theatre Company Leominster, learning puppetry and puppet making through an Arts Council sponsored residency.
When we first started this project in 2017 little did we know how topical our performance would be. Hardly a day goes by without news of fires raging in the Amazon Rainforest. The Amazonian Rainforest is one of the few landmarks on earth that can be seen from outer space. The more we have learnt about the forests the more we have begun to realise just how important they are to life on earth. Called the lungs of the planet the rainforests are the most diverse habitats on the planet.
We looked into our shopping bags and discovered that palm oil is in a whole range of basic products from biscuits to lipstick. In our rehearsal coffee breaks the group checked out whether we had bought biscuits with palm oil in, and we all become much more aware of how we can all do something to help change the situation.
Please look at our Rainforest file created during the first year of the project. We had a weekly rainforest news spot and all the company brought in different items from newspapers and magazines and online articles. Together we built a picture of life in the forests and the responsibility we all have for their survival. There are photos and sample sessions of the early part of this project.
Every year Arts etc strive to introduce new ideas and ways of telling stories to people in our plays. Puppetry was an interest we wanted to follow up on and it seemed a perfect vehicle for this play about animal and human life in the rainforest.
If you are interested in signing a petition to help the survival of the Amazon rainforest please look at some of the ones we have signed:

Thank you for your support.
